Final Five Reasons to Host Your Own Blog.
I have a bit of catching up to do on my blog posts so I thought to start with I better give you the remaining reasons why you should host your own blog.
The reasons for me falling behind will be revealed over the next week.
I also have some encouraging news regarding the use of Aweber instead of Feedburner for my subscription management, and I also have results to reveal on the effectiveness of my subscription form and how I set it all up.
For now, it’s time to reveal the final 5 reasons why you should host your own blog.
6. Encourage Interaction with Your Readers
The blogs on the Internet which really work well are those that have reader interaction. This can happen in many different ways, and I’ll only list a few of the more effective methods, by effective I mean it will have a positive impact on your blog and help you rank higher in the search engines. It will also help you nurture a relationship with your readers, thus placing them in a position where they will more likely purchase something from you.
Top 5 Interaction Methods for Your Blog
1. Encourage comments on your posts. You have seen how I do this with CommentLuv and advertising the fact I give links back.
2. Encourage others to write a post on their blog and link back to yours. I haven’t done this just yet but it will be included in the Intern Program coming soon (yes I know I promised to release this earlier but I have been caught up with something I will reveal another time.)
3. Encourage social book marking with Digg, del.icio.us, Technorati…etc. I have been using a method to achieve this which I am now in the process of automating, thus giving me more time to do other things.
4. Invite others to write a post you can put on your blog. This is another process I will be releasing in the Intern program once it is open.
5. Use a service like Blog Carnival. I have been using one for about 4 months now and the results have been amazing, more about this in another post soon.
Be sure to subscribe to my blog posts if you want to be notified when I do by using the subscription box in the right hand side menu.
7. Hundreds of Excellent FREE Wordpress Plugins
Wordpress Plugin Database is one such site where you can find tons and tons of interesting plug-ins to help enhance your blogging experience with Wordpress.
Some of them are so powerful that you can actually create a whole shopping cart or entertainment blog just by using the free plug-ins available.
8. Seamless Integration with Videos and Audio
You can easily add videos from most of the video hosting sites (YouTube for example), and Audio files, including Podcasts. Again there are a number of plugins available to make this Ezy. If you would like me to make a video to show you how, leave a comment to let me know and I’ll put one together and post it here
9. Wordpress Blogs have Powerful Categories
If you use the Wordpress Categories in the correct manner they were intended you will gain excellent search engine optimisation (SEO) to gain a better rank in the search engines. Blogger has something similar called labels but it’s not as powerful as categories in Wordpress, thus another reason to host your own blog.
10. Integrated Password Protection
Last but by no means least, is the protection of your blog and its content. By using the password feature built into Wordpress posts, plus the integration of neat plug-in I found, you can turn your blog into a membership site. I’m sure you have heard everyone talking about how membership sites are an excellent business platform for residual income.
There is also a really good plug-in available to protect your blog from hackers. I’ve already had one of my blogs hacked (prior to install protection) and as a result I had to delete the whole thing. Can you imagine how I felt about having to do this, especially through no fault of my own? So it is paramount you make sure your precious blog, and the information contained within it is well protected. The plug-in I use and fully recommend for this protection is Wordpress Secure.
I think that about covers what I consider the Top 10 reasons you should host your own blog. I will be expanding on these in future posts, so if you would like me to write about anything in particular, or have a question you would like me to answer, please leave a comment below. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to my posts so you get an instant short message to let you know when I have.

I do agree with your point of providing options for submitting videos. That can encourage bloggers to have better and realistic interaction.

Some very good advice there cheers. Is there any chance you can show how you put videos up on your blogs?
I always thought about creating a blog for my automotive website but i never decided to do it. Mainly because i never knew how successful it was going to be and i’m the type of person that don’t become motivated to do things unless i know it ill work.
But after reading this, i might have to give it a shot. since there are so many people who says that blogging is a must these days, i might as well go for it.
I’m convinced I need to get off blogger and get my blog onto wordpress. Wordpress seems to have so much flexibility via plugins. Is there a list anywhere of all of the wordpress plugins with a plain english fast descriptiopn of what the plugin does (for a non-technology person). Also, is there a list of wordpress geeks who are available to add plugins and features to blogs maintained by marketing people?
