Guess where the “internet marketing newbies” community has gone????

Communities… this seems the be one of the hot terms on the Internet these days, but the word itself has been around for a long time.

The word community is derived from the Latin communitas (meaning the same), which is in turn derived from communis, which means “common, public, shared by all or many”[1]. Communis comes from a combination of the Latin prefix con- (which means “together”) and the word munis (which has to do with performing services).

So as you can see we aren’t dealing with anything new here, and most of us already understand the meaning, but then again do we?

There have been a lot of communities (or networks) popping up on the Internet trying to piggy-back on the “sense of community” feelings people associate with the word and in turn getting a lot of people to join them in the community they have created.

A good friend of mine Ric Raftis who lives in a nice, but often dry community, recently contacted me regarding a new Web 2.0 community website, which we both feel is going to change the way people share information about common interests in their area of interest. I liked the idea so much I went ahead and became the Community Partner for the Blue Mountains Community because I saw the potential for local businesses to bring their image and exposure into a new area. I have posted a link to Ric’s article at the end.

In these new (but old) communities you can join as a free individual or business and start posting articles, photos, videos, blogs entries or even join in the forum straight away. It all comes back to building relationships with the people in the community and in doing so you will also attract visitors and customers. It’s exactly how communities are built, and I mean the offline communities, so why shouldn’t it work online.

If you truly embrace the idea of community and use Cagora in the way it is intended, then there will only be rewards at the end.

Let’s get back to the way communites were originally built.

Have an awesome day.
