Matt, I agree with you on emotions in your marketing. Need to be careful with whos emotions are in the marketing campaign, yours or the customers.

Wholeheartedly agree. Though most marketing campaigns appear alike, they are actually diverse especially when it comes to efficacy. That being said, there are really certain marketing techniques that could be more useful that we already know.

As you say, emotions are very important in marketing.

I think a lot of companies are using this technique now by marketing their products as being environmentally friendly. This makes people feel good about what they’re buying.

It’s been working well for a while. However, I think the effect is waning, since there are just so many companies doing this. Also, people are becoming skeptical about some green theories, such as global warming. So there’s not the same “warm inner glow” about the subject that there used to be.

I hear what your saying. For me my mind boggles that companies like La Senza do massive paid media deals for untargeted traffic, yet they do not have a Canadian affiliate program. Why spend money on getting your logo/symbol and marketing message right if you do not market it properly.

Ian you have brought forward a very interesting fact which people were not aware of and often end up furstrating as to why there products are not doing well despite good quality and huge amount of money spend on advertising.When we talk about marketing often people think in terms of advertising and sales promotion but there is much more to marketing ,its all about how your product is perceived but the consumers and how they respond to it moreover how can we improve the perception so as to people can relate to it.yes an emotional appeal though advertising where in consumers can relate to the product in there lives works great and often bring in excellent results.

I find that you 3 suggestions are important, but like everything else some of these marketing techniques take time. McDonalds wasn’t a success overnight. I want success, but in real estate you must go slow and steady.

Some very interesting points. I'd certainly agree that a lot of large companies use the symbols, inborn responses and emotions to drive sales. However there are some organisations that are successful that don't: Google, Ubuntu, Java et. al. These organisations tend to get a lot more respect as their promotion strategy is largely based on the quality and nature of what they do.
