Comments on my blog are a win-win-win.
Filed Under (How To, Make Money Blogging, Plug Ins) by Ian Richardson on 27-10-2008
I spent a lot of today emailing with another online marketer and he pointed me to a couple of wordpress plug-ins that I think are quite cool.
First plug-in was a very powerful little widget which enabled me to list the Top 10 Commentators on my blog. The direct benefit to you is the fact it has your name and a link back to your site which is dofollow enabled. If you are in the Top 10 you will have a link there for a month, then things are reset for another month. I think that only fair considering it gives everyone a fair chance of being in the Top 10 for a month, provided they remain on the list
Here’s a picture to show you the current standing and how easy it could be for you to be on the list simply by making just one more comment.

The link and list stays current for one whole month, so it can be in your interest to remain active with comments from month to month.
Please also remember. I do like comments with good content and not SPAM. SPAM comments, and they are easy to recognise so remember I moderate all comments, all SPAM comments will be deleted.
Ok, enough of the hard-ball. Here’s another way you can get links from your comments back to your site.
I also have a widget installed which lists all Recent Comments on my blog, you can see a picture of it below.

You will see I have highlighted GOOD LINKS and OK LINKS, there is a difference.
GOOD LINKS are people using the KeywordLuv plug-in to it’s full potential. If you want to read more about the KeywordLuv plug-in I am using and how you can use it properly, click on this link and a pop-up window will appear where you can read about it and then close it to return here.
OK LINKS are people entering their name and web site address but NOT using the KeywordLuv plug-in to its FULL potential. I suggest you try and get into the habit of leaving comments and being creative with the way you use KeywordLuv. You can mix it up a little with the Keywords you are trying to target. I don’t think I can be more obvious about what I am suggesting and what is quite powerful!
If you would like to grab a copy of the Wordpress Top Commentators Plug-In click here. This link opens in a new window so you might like to finish reading first and then come back for the plug-in later. There is another cool plug-in I want to tell you about first, then you can download both of them.
The second cool wordpress plug-in is more to help administration of comments and try to make the whole process more personal. The plug-in is called Comment Relish and is available by clicking this link, again this will open in a new window.
I wanted to thank people for leaving a comment on my blog the first time, and I also wanted a way to deliver important information about my blog at the same time. Comment Relish came to the rescue by enabling me to send an email to the person who made a comment straight away. Visit the page above for a full description, it’s a great little tool which makes the whole process a lot more personal. If you are someone who receives the email, please leave a comment here and give me your impression.
I think that’s about all for now, it’s been a busy week and I apologise if you are sick of the sight of my emails. If you have any comments about how often I post please leave a comment.
Thanks again for your time. I hope I’ve helped you use the comments section a bit better, especially for your links back to your sites.
Don’t forget the special offer I have running at the moment, if it’s still live there will be a link below.
Till next time,

@Cyprus, thanks for the pat on the back. One word of advice, try and use KeywordLuv to it’s full potential by leaving your name and keyword. For example Cypress@Title deeds

Great Ian, have downloaded the good comment plugin for my blogs, I didn’t know it existed. Thanks V

Hello V,
Thanks for the comments. I took the liberty of changing your name from “build a computer” to V because either way you get a link back to your site. If you entered your name the KeywordLuv way for Maximum benefit you should have entered “yourname@build a computer”
Thanks again

Hi Ian,
great post. I use commentluv myself.
But i disagree with you on Comment Relish.
These days we receive more and more unsolicited mail.
And without opting in for it before, i don’t want anybody to send me mail.
Not even a “Thank-You-mail for a comment.
Call it mail or listphobia, but imho more mails are NOT the way to go

Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the feedback. I must admit I had never thought of it that way and will have to give it some more consideration.
If anyone else has any thoughts on the Comment Relish plug-in please let me know.
If you are someone who received the email let me know your thoughts on both receiving it and the content of the email.
If you haven’t left a comment on my blog before then you are in a perfect position to both test it and let me know your thoughts.
I might even write a post about this to get more insight on what everyone thinks.
Thanks again for the help.

I would have to agree with Michael on the comment relish plug-in. Too many people are unwilling to leave comments now for fear of getting spam mail and if they start getting thank you letters from everyone they will just quit commenting or use a bogus email. Just my thoughts on the matter

@Alan k@alankimber.org, Thanks Alan, I think I’ll be leaving Comment Relish off for the moment anyway because of the issues with it.
If anyone else has thought son this please leave your comments below.
Thanks

I couldn’t agree more! I love sites that have Keyword Luv and Top Commenting plugins. They provide a way to benefit the users that comment and help shape a site. It’s really a win win situation for everyone, the commentors fill your site with original and unique content keeping it fresh and they are rewarded for such. Great stuff! I have them on all of my blogs.

Ian, thats a pretty good reception for anyone new to your blog. Readers do like dofollow blogs if they are getting a link back to their site and they will contribute more regularly which overall is a very nice thing for a blog. I know with dofollow there’s a high chance of spam and it’s time-consuming to take out spam from legitimate comments so I appreciate your efforts for it as well. I’ve bookmarked your blog and will check back for more articles later on! Thanks buddy.
