Testing Feedburner V’s Aweber as a subscription service
I’ve been researching the pros and cons of using Aweber instead of Feedburner as my subscriber and blog announcement management service. I’ve now discovered some very good reasons to change and start using Aweber as my preferred choice.
Feedburner is a news feed management provider with some other statistics and information you can gather about your blog. Aweber is a subscriber and autoresponder management service. Both are used for different purposes, but you can also use Aweber to broadcast your blog post announcements to subscribers.
I’ve decided to implement Aweber and remove Feedburner for some very specific reasons which I will write about in another post.
I have also implemented a clever technique to test many different versions of the subscription form you see in the sidebar on the right. I’ve done this so I can test 11 different variables fields (each variable field has it’s own collection of variables as well). I haven’t calculated the total number of variation possibilities just yet, but I will let you know when I report my results.
The idea behind this is to see which combination is the most effective to encourage someone to enter their details and subscribe to my posts. You won’t actually see a different subscription form if you refresh the page because this is part of how the technique works to gather the most accurate data.
Once I have collected the statistics I’ll publish my results here on my blog, and I’ll also show you how to get this working on your own blog quickly and easily.
This has to be the ultimate form of split testing available I have ever used, and the easiest to implement.

I tested this myself to see what kind of results I would get. Feedburner is great because its free and because its very user friendly. However, Aweber is gold in terms of building a mailing list, which I’ve found to be very very profitable.

I read the followup article as well as this one. I’m very curious as to whether or not you had tried to monetize this subscription. If you had then I think you would have found aweber to be much, much better.
