My Internet Marketing Isn’t Working for me!

Anyone trying to make a living with Internet marketing has at least three things against them: They are working on their own, they are being bombarded with new products all the time, and they will find it very tempting to jump from one money making plan to another. How does one ever succeed online?

Discipline Yourself

If you are to work from home it is going to take some serious discipline if you are to make your business a success. You have to decide when to work. You have to make sure you don’t get lazy and waste a morning or an afternoon here and there. Always be determined to get up away from the TV and do something constructive for your business.

You are on your own, all the time. It is completely up to you whether you spend one hour a day being productive or eight hours. That is why self-discipline is so important.

It also takes self-discipline to not spend hours going over e-mails instead of working. It is recommended that you limit the number of e-mail lists you join. Why subscribe to 50 e-mail lists and then have to spend two hours wading through your inbox deleting all those e-mails?

Signing up for two or three e-mail lists should be enough. Limit it to the experts you really want to hear from. Or better yet, subscribe to their RSS feeds.

New Stuff is released every day and it’s all “Necessary for your Success!!” Don’t be in a panic to buy everything that comes along. Quite a lot of stuff is repeated/rehashed gear and unless you can see a REAL benefit to your business then avoid the temptation and keep your money in your pocket.

Products that do deserve some consideration and those that may cut your workload down by automating some part of it. Do consider these as your time is one of your most precious commodities. This could possibly include using a service that will take care of some of your jobs more efficiently. These could be wise investments.

Still beware of the glowing sales-copy though. These people are very good at it. Make sure you NEED a product before you buy it. Would you buy a new screwdriver if you already had one that works ok? This is for business not fun.

Stay on Focus

It’s an absolute necessity to maintain your focus on your business and not get distracted. Spend some time creating a business plan and then make sure that you follow it to the letter

If you are doing something and blatantly it’s not going to work out, after suitable effort and application, then learn from your experience and move on to something else. It’s very important not to ditch something just because some all new and shiny program is suddenly thrust upon you. You have to be sure that what you’re working on is a dud before moving on, you don’t want to become a serial business changer.

To avoid becoming bored with some of the more routine tasks you will have to perform change your routine around a little after a period of time. Write a new schedule so you change the order of tasks around. We all need a little variety from time to time. Why not network with other home business owners from time to time? You could pick up some good advice for free.

It is much better to sit back and renew your focus than to trash one business plan for another and then another and then another. You will discover a year from now that your income is much less than it could have been because you failed to concentrate on one plan.

    1. Hi Ian,

      Michael here.

You seem to have quiet some guest authors lately on your blog.
Or do you just repuplish their articles?

Anyway, i agrre with Russel on the importnace of discipline (hey , i’m a German …lol) and focus.

But on what exactly should you focus?

I like to add an agle i was missing in Russels article:

You need to have goals for your business and for yourself first.
Then you should set up a sort of business plan or roadmap how to achieve these goals.
Ask yourself what kind of actions you must take to drive down this your road to success. Break this actions down into tasks to do.
So perhaps you come up with a list of daily tasks.
Then focus on this actions and work with discipline on your tasks, or perhaps outsource some of them …
If you build up your business this way you will succeec, even if it might take some time …
depending on your goals and how you define success for yourself …*-)

      Regards,

      Michael

    3. Hi Michael,

Thanks for all the great comments.

The reason comment luv has disappeared is only a temporary thing. I have programmers testing a new plug in and in order to make sure all is working well we had to turn off all the other plug ins. I’ll be writing about this new plug in very soon and I can guarantee it will be one you will want (and can also test for me considering the
      fact you are German ((HINT))).

All is expected to be back online in the next day or two.

My guest publishers are also something I am testing to see what happens with my traffic and blog rating. More about that when I have results to publish :)

      Thanks

      Ian
