How Affiliate Marketers Can Give Google the Slap!

I’ve used a lot of different affiliate marketing methods and find one of them to be the most effective.
Article marketing is cool, except the article directory gets to keep all the ad revenue and they are getting more particular about what articles they accept.
Review sites are OK, but does anyone really trust the reviews they read on those sites any more? Most people know by now that review sites are just disguised sales pitches and aren’t honest reviews.
Social media is fun, but it has its limits. It’s more about socializing, less about doing business. Sure, you can make connections there but at the end of the day the lion’s share of your profits likely isn’t coming from social media.
Social media sites are not the most important place on the web.
So what is?
Your own blog. In my opinion, there’s nothing like having your own blog, especially if you use WordPress. WordPress makes blogging much easier and more effective.
Your blog is your castle. YOU get to decide which content to put on it and don’t have to wait a week for someone else to approve it. YOU get to keep your ad revenue. If you use Google Adsense, however, chances are it’s more like Google Adcents. And don’t get me started on Google slaps.
That’s why it’s more effective to promote affiliate products on your blog rather than rely on Adsense. Affiliate commissions have a much higher payout than ad clicks.
One option is to have a “blog sponsor” section in your sidebar. Place ads here (preferably with eye-catching graphics rather than just text) that link to select affiliate products and also your own products if you have any.
Another option is to occasionally write a blog post that promotes an affiliate product. The posts should contain solid content in addition to the sales pitch. Write the post as if you were talking to a friend so that it doesn’t come across as too sales-y.
Don’t forget to have an opt-in form on your blog so that you can collect the email addresses of your blog readers. You can occasionally promote affiliate products through email to your list. You should also send out emails that contain helpful, engaging content. You can use your blog posts as content but you should also use original content in your emails too. Mix it up.

“Content is the king!” It’s a famous line across the web, but seldom followed by webmasters. Maybe because it’s a time consuming job (if you can write your own content) or a money eater job (if you can’t write your own content). Either way, you need to invest to have a great content. Once you build up a positive impression with your visitors out of your content, everything will follow.

Good info Ian,
I haven’t yet created a blog that’s ‘my castle’ yet, not sure what I want my castle to be. I have keyword targeted blogs using blogger being a google product, they get far better page rank, even starting from scratch. Adsense might be making a come back, especially if you can rank well in markets with high CPC.

THis castle of mine (EzyAs123) has been an on going process and still isn’t exactly what I want, but it’s a work in progress all the way.
Don’t get too bogged down thinking and not do any moving, start somewhere and keep the ball rolling.

Yeah, is good way to make money since it can give more money per sale. but be careful I read in some blogs, google can slap back affiliate marketer.
My opinion for review site, I don’t really trust that people doing good review at affiliate program, sometimes I notice that people only copy the salesletter.

Well the good news here is that the FTC in America is cracking down on this big time so from now on we should only get honest or very clearly marked affiliate reviews of products.

Many blogers does this too, they do have many tricks to fool Adsense and make more money with some short cut ways, but again the monster wins, Google won’t allow such things to prevail in blogers world which can drive itself to loss.

Are you sure it’s just blogs? I noticed a pretty drastic decrease in my adsense earnings this month for my forum. Even though I have dramatically increased the number of visitors and page views over the last few months. My forum does include affiliate links. Of course so do my blogs and websites but the forum is where i have seen the decrease in earnings.

I wonder if it’s possible to do affiliate marketing on a blog that has nothing to do with selling anything. It’s a general-purpose blog, so how would I be able to monetize it, if ever?

Adsense or affiliate offers? This is a tricky one. Depends on so many factors…In some areas, you get 5$ per click while an affiliate sale is under 5$, with a 1% conversion rate. See my point?

One thing that I have to do is get that opt in form on my website – I was using aweber for a couple months but lost track of making emails so I discontinued service, I will be getting it back up though here in the near future

The position about adsense versus affiliate commissions is right. For far we can make more money with some affiliate programs. The problem with blogs is that you must have some expertise to keep them updated and ranking in search engines

This is a fab post as it is honest. I like your honesty about blog posting and that collecting emails is a good way to sell affiliate products.
In my opinion it is the only way to sell affiliate products effectively. Not many people understand this concept.
People are unlikely to buy from a stranger. Not to say that there is no one who will. – But once people get to know you they will buy.

It’s really dependent on several factors that I have no idea about. Sometimes I get paid huge for adsense clicks, sometimes no…it’s really weird.
