Many of you, especially beginners at online-based businesses, might think, “How can a simple newsletter sent by e-mail generate profit?” Well, over the years, this industry has been proven to be both profitable not just in sales but also in advertisement.
So how do you advertise in your ezines to boost your sales? First thing to do is to get the buyers’ attention. Ask relevant questions and empathise with your readers. Also make sure to be direct and to the point as glittery words are not needed nor required.
Second, put up a need and demonstrate how your product will fill that need. When discussing this, always make sure that you have proof to back up your statements. Also, address your buyers’ most common complaints.
Show how they will be able to benefit from your product or chosen service. Prove how your product differs from your competition. A user testimonial is a good way to show this and if you can offer a guarantee, then show it to them.
Use the psychology of “fear of loss,” showing that if the prospect won’t act now, he/she will miss out. Having a time limit or a limit on the availability of the product itself can make your prospects scamper for your products.
Make them an offer they can not refuse. Even the most intelligent buyer who has looked over your products needs a little bit of convincing, even though they know that your products or services are great.
Don’t overlook how powerful this tactic can be. This kind of special promotion can make a great profit from your ezines, so don’t forget to state them in your ezine.
Also make it easy for readers to respond to your ads. Have multiple ways for your prospects to respond to your offer like toll-free phones, websites, emails, postal mail, etc., and make the process simple and quick. Always keep in mind that this is not a survey question but an inquiry page so make it direct and user-friendly.
Lower your price, but still make it profitable. This kind of strategy is a must and a profit gainer for professional services such as coaches or trainers. This is a must if you are just starting out, as a low price means more subscribers and more chances of getting your ads exposed to the buying public.
Don’t be afraid to talk about yourself or your own services. If your main purpose in your ezines is to make your readers’ lives enriching and well-relaxed, then thank their lucky stars, there are still people like you.
But now, enough of the good deeds. First, try to focus on yourself, so make at least 20% of your ezine space for your own ads.
Give out promos and discounts for your services, ebooks, workshops, etc. Also present your raving testimonials and documentaries in your ezine ads. Entwine some business success stories in your articles or tips.
Share something different and personal that will radiate warmth with your readers and make them feel closer to you.
Submit your ezines to ezine directories. Surely, you might subscribe a thousand ezine subscribers, but a thousand is only a minuscule proportion of the total internet population. Submitting to directories is a good way of gaining more exposure.
Swapping is also a very effective way to gain exposure for your ezine. This works just like reciprocal linking, but in this way, you are not just getting free exposure, you are also providing your readers with good and reliable resources.
You can also subscribe to other ezines and website announcement lists. This can bring you a steady flow of new subscribers that can lead to higher profit raises.
Joining discussion groups is also a good way to establish your business as trustworthy and reliable. As more people know you, they will more often than not, subscribe to your ezine.
You can also join PopUnder groups; these are groups of fellow publishers listed in one pop under window together with some lists of articles. This is a very good way of gaining more subscribers because when other people visit the site, they will see you listed with other publishers, reinforcing your reputation as a legit business establishment.
Always keep in mind that ezines will not always make money for you, but even though you aren’t making a profit, there are still some other sides of marketing that ezines can help a lot. Ezines may be delivering more benefits that are not as obvious to you.
Your ezine is helping you establish a credible identity on the internet. It gives you massive online exposure and you are gaining further credibility with your current clients and customers.
Ezines also force you to package your knowledge into articles and tips which can you later use for other marketing reasons.
Recently I wrote about including a new plug-in to send an email to someone the first time they write a comment. All seems ok but after reading the comments on this page I have changed my mind for the forseeable future.
I’ll summarise the comments so you don’t have to spend the 40 minutes reading through them like I did, but if you want to click here.
Basically the major issue which hasn’t been addressed to date is the fact the plug-in can cause the site to shut down.
Here is one of the common comments you will find.
I have been using your great plugin for a while now, and I just got this error. It took down my entire site! All of a sudden, when I loaded my blog, I got this message:
The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…
So I’m not willing to take the risk until a stable plug-in has been created.
I’m interested in your thoughts regarding one aspect of the plugin. Michael, a regular reader and leaver of comments raised the issue of how sending an email when someone leaves a comment could be a little annoying, especially considering how many emails people already receive. You know my thoughts from my post, in brief, I wanted a way to thank someone for leaving a comment and also introduce them to the complimentary PLR if they subscribe.
Before delving into the money matters of ezines, I would like to first discuss what ezines are. This is for the benefit of those people who do not have a full understanding of what ezines are.
Maybe it shouldn’t come as a big surprise, but most people on the internet and some self-possessed ezine distributors do not know what the word EZINE really means.
Ezines are electronic publications distributed by email or posted on a website. Ezines are typically focused on a certain subject matter. Ezines are just like your typical magazine format of monthly or weekly topical publications in an electronic format.
The title EZINE does not come from the phrase Electronic Magazine, cause you might be thinking that the E in electronic and the Zine in magazine are joined to form this word.
Actually Ezine came from the word FanZine which was a publication with a small subscriber base back then. FanZines were targeted publications that were usually geared towards specific topics like Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Football clubs.
Those printed publications were called ‘FanZines’, but were frequently referred to as ‘Zines’ instead.
Back to modern days, most Ezines are focused around specific topics and interest groups, just like the way the Zines once were.
Adding an ‘E’ onto the beginning of the much coveted publication name “Zines” brings us to the word Ezines. This offers a much more logical explanation of where the word “ezines” came from.
Now that we know what ezines are, lets now discuss the basics of creating and doing business with ezines.
Ezine publishing is a very important factor towards a business’ success for many reasons. Basically, it keeps you in contact with your potential customers. The relationship between your clients is formed and that is what is needed for trust and respect.
You can also profit by selling advertisements through your own ezine publication. Ezines can be used both as an advertising platform for your business as well as an income-generating endeavor.
When starting out with your ezine publication, keep in mind the basic and most important elements of a good ezine.
1. Keep your ezines clean, short, and full. Don’t add too many unrelated decorations or pictures to your ezines. Ezine page decoration sometimes makes it hard for readers to read your content.
People are more drawn to reading short ezines than those long ones that keep on making discussions that go on and on.
2. Minimal advertisement is a must. It is a good point that publishers must advertise in their ezines, but always keep it to a reasonable number of about seven or less, depending on the length of your ezines.
3. Make it personal. When creating your ezines, add your personality to it. Talk to your subscribers. Make it warm and inviting. Let them get into you as you get to know them better.
4. Put in some interactivity. Make your ezines fun as we can all use a bit of fun. Put a form in there, some survey questions, a bit of trivia, and other forms of interaction.
5. Put in quality content. If your ezines talk about something that deals with paper crafts, then make sure it provides information about how to make paper crafts. Tips, articles, links, resources, products, tools, news, etc. - these are all the things you can and should give your readers.
6. Be on time and consistent. If you posted that you will be sending out ezines once a week every Monday, then do it that way. If ever something happens that is beyond your control that might prevent this, just explain to your subscribers in your next release and they will surely understand.
7. Make it a priority to have original content. If you are not sure about articles, then just write editorials or short scripts with news updates, interesting tips, and product reviews.
8. Always proofread your content. You don’t want your ezine to look like a 10-year old child has done it.
Most importantly, enjoy your ezine, have fun with it, be yourself, and wonderful things will start to happen. At least they did for so many success stories - they met great new people and their businesses flourished. This can all happen for you as well with your very own quality ezine!
I spent a lot of today emailing with another online marketer and he pointed me to a couple of wordpress plug-ins that I think are quite cool.
First plug-in was a very powerful little widget which enabled me to list the Top 10 Commentators on my blog. The direct benefit to you is the fact it has your name and a link back to your site which is dofollow enabled. If you are in the Top 10 you will have a link there for a month, then things are reset for another month. I think that only fair considering it gives everyone a fair chance of being in the Top 10 for a month, provided they remain on the list
Here’s a picture to show you the current standing and how easy it could be for you to be on the list simply by making just one more comment.
The link and list stays current for one whole month, so it can be in your interest to remain active with comments from month to month.
Please also remember. I do like comments with good content and not SPAM. SPAM comments, and they are easy to recognise so remember I moderate all comments, all SPAM comments will be deleted.

OK LINKS are people entering their name and web site address but NOT using the KeywordLuv plug-in to its FULL potential. I suggest you try and get into the habit of leaving comments and being creative with the way you use KeywordLuv. You can mix it up a little with the Keywords you are trying to target. I don’t think I can be more obvious about what I am suggesting and what is quite powerful!

Just imagine how many office workers procrastinate at work every day, and you will be able to gauge how many people will keep visiting your site if you provide a very interesting or addicting way of entertainment. You can also hold competitions to award the high score winner to keep people trying continuously to earn the prize.
5) You need new stuff every day
Update your site frequently with fresh content so that every time your visitors come back, they will have something to read on your site. This is the most widely known and most effective method of attracting returning visitors, but this is also the least carried out one because of the laziness of webmasters. So you’ve decided you either want to be an affiliate marketer or you want to offer your product to others so they can try and sell it on your behalf, either way you will have to give some thought to cloaking your affiliate links, just like I cloaked the link above.
There are a few good points supporting the fact that you should cloak your.
1. Affiliate Link Hijacking – This occurs when someone uses their own affiliate link to purchase a product. For example; I talk about and recommend a product on my blog and there is also a link to the products main sales page. If I use an obvious affiliate link then someone can substitute their affiliate code in place of mine. When they use the new link to buy the product, they get the commission instead of me.
2. Affiliate Link Bypassing – This occurs when someone simply removes the affiliate link to go directly to the product’s main selling site. I really don’t know why someone would do this because it takes no extra money out of their pocket. Why not give someone a commission for doing some work to get you there?
3. Affiliate Link Condensing – Some affiliate links can be long, ugly, and uninviting, which can cause some people to avoid clicking the link. Many people will recognise an affiliate link and will not click on it because the do not like being sold to, or only view it as a sales pitch. You want as many people to click your link as possible so if you have a link that looks something like this, www.productsite.com/affiliatepage.asp?affid=prodaffid4653, you would cloak the link to look something like this, www.yoursite.com/productsite, to make it appear more inviting.
So how should you cloak your links?
There are several ways to cloak your links and there also exist various pieces of software that will generate cloaked link pages for you.
I’m releasing the best program I have seen to date at a price you will not believe. Look for the sale at the top and bottom of this post.
One other method you can use is a link cloaking service, such as tinyurl. These services will take any URL and create a redirect for them using a shortened URL (usually related to the service’s main URL. E.g. tinyurl/productsite). This may be desirable if you are marketing an affiliate product and you do not yet have your own web host. But if you use this method, be aware that some ad sites and pay-per-click programs do not allow you to use a redirected URL such as those offered by link cloaking services.
Should you cloak your affiliate links?
Now that you know the problems facing affiliate links and how to cloak them, you may be asking yourself if you should in fact use link cloaking.
Some marketers may consider the use of cloaked links dishonest – they feel that if they have a good enough relationship with their customers and develop a high level of trust, people will not have any issues clicking on the original affiliate link (this really only works for email marketing). Others simply feel they are optimising their marketing and protecting their sales; to get as much possible returns for their efforts as possible.
There really is no correct answer. In the end, you will need to decide if affiliate link cloaking is the best approach for your business.

Which reminds me of one last thing I need to cover before I reveal this weeks Gift.
I received an email from a subscriber saying it was difficult to see how to leave a comment on my blog. This might help.
When you visit my blog you will arrive one of two ways. First is by landing on my home page, which at the present time looks like this.
If you scroll to the bottom of the first post, or any of the others, you will see a link where you can leave comments. Look at the picture below.
See the link that says 4 comments? This means there are 4 comments already entered on the post, to leave your comments simply click the link and you will see something like this….
I’ll explain the numbered sections a little further down in this post. It’s important you understand a couple of them so you make full use of the commentluv and KeywordLuv plug-in I’ve installed. These both help you get a link back to your web site. If you don’t have one that’s fine, you can still leave your comment. I read all the comments because I like the feedback, and I have to approve them as well.
One point I’d like to make about comments which will be approved on my blog. If they are outright advertising and you don’t use a first name (you can even use a fake name if you want), it WILL NOT be approved. Don’t use a Keyword for your first name, there is a better way to do it and I’ll explain that later in this post. The only other thing I would like to ask is please make the comment relevant and add value. Give me your opinion, be it for or against, I don’t mind, and actually encourage you to do so. Your comments are for me to make my blog better, and for other visitors to read as well. If your comment creates enough interest, and you have the correct links to your site, you could gain another visitor, so use the comments on my blog to your advantage.
The other way you will get to my blog is through a direct link to an article. You should see something like the picture below. You can tell if this is an article page because you will see a picture of my 123 Rubik Cube.
To make a comment on this page simply scroll to the bottom and you will see something like the picture below.
Now let’s run through what all the numbered items are on in the comments section so you have a better understanding and use both the CommentLuv and KeywordLuv plug-ins correctly and to your advantage.
1 & 1a. This is where you enter your NAME and your KEYWORDS. I use a special plug-in called KeywordLuv which does something really clever. If you enter your name like this; NAME@KEYWORDS, KeywordLuv converts it. For example, I usually enter my name like this when I leave a comment on a blog that has KeywordLuv, Ian@Internet Business. KeywordLuv then converts that to Ian from Internet Business and as you can see it turns the keyword into a link using my web site address. If you don’t have a web site you can simply enter your name. I’d prefer if you leave a name (even fake) because when I reply I like to address them with “Hello Bill” instead of “Hello Vintage Cars”. This is also a required field so you might as well use it to your best advantage. The reason it’s required is to work around the SPAM Robots which surf the Internet looking for places to leave comments. Real people leave real names and keywords.
2. If you want to keep up with a particular article and the comments you will need to enter your email address here. This is used in conjunction with your selection at No.6 (read 6 for further information). Also, at times I like to reply to comments more personally so if you enter your email address here I’m able to do so. No need to fear, no one else sees this email address so you are 100% safe! This is also a required field and it’s another system I had to introduce to prevent SPAM Robots from leaving junk comments.
3. Entering your web site address here will enable both the KeywordLuv and CommentLuv plug-in to work thus giving you a valuable link back to your site.
4. Obviously this is where you enter your comment, feedback, ramblings, anything you like. Just remember, make it relevant to the post and give some value and you gain even more value and reader interest, which could lead to a visitor through your links in your comment.
5. CommentLuv is another clever plug-in I have installed as a thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. CommentLuv works best if you have a blog of your own because this is what it does. When you post your comment on my blog, CommentLuv will use the URL (web address) you provided in No.3, and if it’s a blog it will find your most recent post and generate a link to it at the end of your comment. Here’s a picture showing you examples of some comments people wrote using all the tools perfectly.
As you can see in the first comment it was written by bill from IT Governance (IT Governance being the keyword linking back to the URL he put in No.3). He also has a blog which CommentLuv found using his URL and placed a link at the end of his comment, you can see it where I have written the red 5. The same happened for the second comment, but in the third comment written by James you will see there was no blog at the URL he gave. He still received a link back through the keyword System Speed. He did this by entering James@System Speed in No.1 and his URL in No.3
6. Check this box if you would like to keep updated on comments written on posts where you leave comments. My blog will send you an email each time someone leaves a new comment.
